Dr Mark Wilkinson

Co-founder & CSO

Mark completed his undergraduate and master's degrees in Biochemistry at the University of Oxford before undertaking a PhD in Infectious Disease at Imperial College London. Prior to joining Bactobio, he was based at the Drug Discovery Unit at GlaxoSmithKline in Madrid. Currently, Mark is a Leadership Fellow at the Royal Society of Engineering, a member of the Royal Society of Chemistry, and sits on the Microbiology Society's "Knocking out AMR" action group, which is a 5-year action plan to combat the development of antimicrobial resistance.


As Co-founder and Chief Scientific Officer (CSO), Dr Mark Wilkinson oversees the company’s scientific strategy and platform development. He leads the growth of the scientific team, helps secure funding, and manages external collaborations, including academic partnerships. Mark also plays a crucial role in establishing opportunities and advancing research initiatives through strategic partnerships.


In his free time, Mark can be found in the kitchen cooking and baking or travelling around the world on his bike.
