Dr Eduard Mas-Claret
Scientist
Eduard Mas-Claret holds a PhD in Organic Chemistry (2018) and an MSc in Drug Discovery (2014), both from the University of Surrey, where he graduated with distinction. He also earned a BSc in Chemistry from the IQS School of Engineering in Barcelona (2013).
Eduard brings extensive experience in natural products chemistry and pharmacologically active compounds. Most recently, he worked as a Natural Products Chemist at the Royal Botanic Gardens, Kew, where he published scientific articles on natural product extraction, isolation, and characterisation. His work included selecting plant-based excipients to replace synthetic ingredients in botanical insecticides and collaborating on NMR characterisation projects. Prior to this, Eduard was a Research Fellow at the University of Surrey, where he managed laboratory operations and supervised students in advanced characterisation techniques.
In his role within the Compound Discovery team, Eduard focuses on the extraction, purification, and structural elucidation of secondary metabolites from unculturable microbes, specialising in NMR spectroscopy.
In his free time, Eduard enjoys spending time with his family, reading fantasy novels, watching football, and playing board games.
